A Friday Night Out With College Buddies At A Local College Club Leads To Hazardous And Abusive Drinking And An Alcohol Overdose
When Lois was in high school, she had acquired a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, "got down" and drank with her buddies. She seemed determined to do well academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only liked but one that also gave her some monetary security.
After Lois finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into a well known program in philosophy. Her logic behind this decision was that this academic discipline would be good preparation for law school and would not be similar to the majority of law school applicants who choose political science as their undergraduate major or minor.
Lois was the kind of individual who worked diligently to finish what she started and then would take a few days off when she could. As is the case, nonetheless, most of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks did not have much to do with drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were done and feeling proud of the fact that she had done a super job on her tests, nevertheless, she felt like celebrating.
So Lois and some of her pals went to a local nightclub where they had a few wine coolers. As the evening advanced, Lois and her pals continued to drink. As a matter of fact she was having such an incredible time that she didn't want the night to end.
After drinking about an hour when Lois started to talk in a confused manner, slur her speech, and then fall unconscious, nonetheless, her buddies promptly realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency number, and ask for medical assistance because they suspected that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was very aware that she had narrowly escaped death from an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat dejected knowing that she had almost died the previous night. Her parents knew how relentlessly she worked at the university and how little she let herself socialize with her buddies. Nonetheless, they also knew that Lois needed to avoid excessive and hazardous drinking.
As a result, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking opportunity arises, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois was in agreement with this and gave her word to her friends and to her parents that she would never again drink in an irresponsible manner. In her own words, "I never had a clue that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now realize that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not the best for me. I swear that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also had. That is, she immediately grasped the fact that she had made an error in judgment and decided that she would not make the same mistake again. In truth, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of excessive and hazardous drinking can end in a loss of life.
