Lenny and Angie have been married for three years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they decided to have children and so they intentionally constructed an incredibly dynamic social life.

The basic issue, however, is that nearly everything they do to have fun is related to drinking. For instance, all of the happy hours, sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and dinner engagements they frequent have something to do with drinking.

If they were casual drinkers this wouldn't be such a big issue. Since they drink in an abusive manner, however, they are beginning to take note of some instantly noticeable alcohol-related issues in their lives.

For instance, just two days ago Lenny was placed under arrest for his first DWI and has been leaving early from work because of alcohol-related health problems. What is more, Lenny's last two performance evaluations at work have been less than praiseworthy and he has begun to forget what he says or does while he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to get nervous about his drinking activities.

In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling disheartened about things in her life and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past three years. Moreover, Angie has been experiencing quite a few migraine headaches and experiencing severe hangovers after drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling substantially less active when she awakens, she has been getting to work late almost every Monday, and she has been receiving some well-deserved criticism from her family members, coworkers, friends, and relatives about her excessive and unhealthy drinking.

One Monday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie accidentally found an attention-grabbing program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This television program was a real source of discovery to Angie and Lenny because some of the alcohol facts that were talked about appeared as if they were unshakably correlated with many of the drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been experiencing.

With thoughts of the television program still etched in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been displaying could be an indication that they are addicted to alcohol or conceivably becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the local drug and alcohol abuse treatment clinic to find out more about the severity of their drinking difficulties.

Ironically, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was plain to see that Angie and Lenny were at the very least dealing with their drinking difficulties, they were ready to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in learning how they could appreciably reduce or get rid of the alcohol-related issues that had started to deteriorate even further.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they came to a decision that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol treatment facility located downtown. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to conquer the alcohol-related problems that had materialized in their lives, they actually had the most revitalizing night's sleep they could recall in the last seven months.
