A Young Lady Prevails Over Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Irresponsible Drinking, And Bolsters Her Self Worth
Emily was a thirty-eight-year-old marketing manager who was fed up with feeling depressed on a daily basis and sick of her excessive and abusive drinking behavior. Stated simply, she was angry with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, she was sick of feeling lethargic every morning, she was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to her abusive drinking, she missed her old enthusiasm for doing various things she enjoyed, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a recurring basis.
In addition to the perceptible alcohol-related health predicaments she now experienced, possibly the worst part of her drinking behavior was the unreliable and scheming person she had become. In her heart she realized that she had been lying about her drinking behavior to her family, friends and relatives and she also knew she had been untruthful with herself about the "positive" outcomes of drinking. Not only this but she justified wolfing down four or five drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing one or two drinks the first thing in the morning so that she could deal with the "pressures" at her job. Stated briefly, Emily got to a time in her life when she finally comprehended that she hit rock bottom and was now ready to start the gradual road to health.
One of the fundamental ways that Emily put her "plan" into operation was by asking for a transfer at her workplace. When her request was approved by Human Resources and by top management, she moved 200 miles away to a new part of the U.S. If nothing else, this certainly made making new buddies and distancing herself from her old friends and buddies easier. Then she contacted a healthcare practitioner in her new residence and scheduled an appointment for a thorough examination.
After meeting with the physician and going through a number of laboratory tests, it was concluded that Emily had made the transition from alcohol abuse to alcoholism and as a consequence, was in need of alcohol treatment and alcohol detox. At this time, the physician made it a point to highlight the various alcoholic symptoms and the typical symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her physician also told Emily that it was concluded that she was clinically depressed and in need of counseling for this medical condition.
Due to her enthusiasm for following through with the treatment program, after ten weeks of residential rehab, Emily was ready to start treatment on an outpatient basis. At this time, she started working at her new job and over a period of several weeks began fortifying her body by exercising, drinking filtered water, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free way of life, and taking vitamins and minerals.
After nearly eight weeks of outpatient treatment during which time she never experienced an alcohol relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol rehab and instead began going three times per week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free style of life, they provided her with the support she required, and they served as a frequent reminder of the destructive consequences that are associated with abusive and careless drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now good and loaded with possibilities that she could have never wished for or fulfilled while while she was troubled with excessive and abusive drinking behavior.
