Paid To Play Video Games - Is It Really True?
Are there individuals that seriously get paid to play video games? Or, could it be that it's merely a big fat myth which happens to serve zero purpose? In reality, people are indeed receiving money to play & enjoy new video game titles every day. Then again, the word "play" typically will lose a huge chunk of it's meaning with regards to this type of job.
One of the major misguided beliefs regarding testing video games for cash will be that it's very easy and 100% fun ALL THE TIME. You're free to plop down, get comfortable, enjoy video games, and then collect a big fat check when you're finished. That would truly be a great career; but sadly, that isn't how it actually works. As opposed to actively playing a video game for fun -- be it on an xbox 360, playstation 3, Wii, or even a PC -- you are going to be "testing & evaluating" it as part of your overall responsibility.
You heard right, professional video game testers are NOT paid sacks of cash merely to have loads of enjoyment playing the latest and greatest video game titles -- they are paid to test and evaluate new video game titles for developers. That is all.
By far the most typical reaction to the above is "what's the difference between playing a video-game and testing one?" Well, its rather simple to be honest. Whenever you play a videogame, you would beat an area and then proceed onto the next. Any time you are responsible for TESTING a video-game, you'll beat a level after which you'll RESTART that area and play through it again. You don't do this 1 time, 2 times, or 3 times. The fact is, you'll do this far more times than you can count until finally you have found all of the game breaking glitches & bugs in the level. This may lead to grinding out a specific area of a video game a few dozen times, if not MORE, to make certain you've found all possible errors. Does this sound as if it's going to be a "good job" to you? I'm going to just take a guess and say NO!
Now, don't get the wrong idea. Paid video game testers will be able to have fun doing game testing assignments -- it's just that the fun is not near the amount lots of people think it is. Rather than drinking soda, eating pizza, and hanging out with friends trying to play amazing new gaming titles, beta testers are essentially doing their best to make video games better.
If you are a game lover and desire to play video games and get paid, then a job as a video game tester is exactly what you have been looking for. Not only can it fulfill your financial needs, but you might easily begin a lucrative career in the process!
